Strategy collaborated with Tokyo-based agency Ultra Super New on this video commissioned by Tepco-Toshiba.
It features master engineer Takayuki Nakahara who had been tasked with building a robot to go into the damaged Fukushima nuclear power reactors to assess the damage caused by the tsunami on March 11, 2011. Nakahara is not only a highly skilled engineer but is also a master in Kendo with a 5th degree black belt. Nakahara san uses his Kendo skill and applies it to his engineering of the shape-shifting scorpion robot. No human could ever get close to the highly radioactive reactors at Fukushima Daiichi so the robot technology was a huge feat in helping assess the damage and debris to the melted nuclear fuel.
