Christchurch International Airport

Arrive in style

At the heart of Christchurch International Airport's renewal was a design that would allow the space from the cabin to the arrival gate to be a single experience. The request was to wow travellers and make Christchurch a world-class airport. First, we started developing the design based on the observation that passengers pass through a number of "points" as they move through the airport. Each of these points offers a deeply memorable experience through the senses and an opportunity to introduce you to the South Island.

So, from the moment a traveler stepped off the plane onto the boarding bridge, we came up with a design that would catch their eyes with a large photo panel. In the photo, when you pass in front of it, you can feel the sounds and scents that are reminiscent of the area in the photo.

During the trip that stimulates the five senses, we have prepared a fountain facility where you can taste the pure groundwater of a dug well, and a point where you can touch natural materials. While waiting for your turn to go through customs, you've created the largest plasma wall in Australasia, which delights and captivates travellers with spectacular views of the South Island.

I really worked this project. We used all of our imagination and creativity to create a design that would empathize with travelers and help them leave the airport with a lot of anticipation.
