The second show at the newly reopened Christchurch Centre of Contemporary Art (CoCA) featured New Zealand’s only showing of John Akomfrah’s work, Vertigo Sea.
The hour-long film is a darkly mesmerising cinematic exploration of humankind’s relationship to ocean. Our campaign needed to allude to some uncomfortable subject matter while still drawing an audience. We used our ‘brand toolkit’ of shapes to create a triangular composition that evokes feelings of premonition and submergence. We then paired this composition with the most singularly striking promotional image from the film. Creative tiling and placement outdoors helps to give the campaign added street presence.
